To vote is a right. Whom to vote for is a personal choice. Canvassing for votes is an effort to support a party or an individual. All is done in the name of democracy and human decency. But, in 2013 Pakistan, there are other ground realities at stake which need to be taken into consideration. This election is serious business, the results are not predictable, change is not only imminent but immanent, there is a strong sense of need for change being felt in the air. The atmosphere is electrifyingly charged, and general man on the street who 5 years ago thought my 1 vote isn't going to make a difference thinks very differently now.
Every thought, every move, every stamp, every vote counts and ought to, and hence true democracy where every voice no matter how small is heard is born.
In this scenario the question is why vote for Imran Khan? I am not particularly a PTI supporter or should I say was, for I had serious issues with Khan's takes on some policy matters like the Taliban, the blasphemy laws, the giving-in to the mullahs, the cowering down to the herd mentality on the Ahmedi issue and so on.... BUT, having said that I feel there are still very valid reasons for voting him and his party to power and the list doesn't include we have no other option clause for that is a defeatist policy and rather pathetic.
My reasons are as under:
The man is honest. No money embezzlement in Shaukat Khanum Hospital
The man is sincere to the country - no history of match fixing
He has an international presence and respect, can carry a dignified face of Pakistan to the world
His mandate is EDUCATION
He talks like a normal person and not spins yarns like a politician
He is on the same page as most Pakistanis
He has done Pakistan proud many times before
He is educated, very well educated
He is not greedy for money
He has class and comes from a good family (which matters)
He is not in politics for personal gain
He is selfless
He is a fighter
and most of all
The man is GOOD LOOKING!!!!:)
Like yourself, I also strongly disagree with his cowardly treatment of the blasphemy law, the status of Ahmedi's and him turning the right cheek to the Taliban. Shaukhat Khanum would not survive on donations - or should I say "public" donations. At the end of the day, its not about who's funding it - as long as we still build hospitals. He has established a phenomenal rapport with the minorities and the youth(his target audiences). HE has the international PR our people deserve. Most importantly, voting for him would decentralize the stronghold of the feudal lords and Karachi's mafia. The lesser of the two(or three) evils should get the vote.
