The Interior Minister, Mr. Rehman Malik, has sent an Eid message to the Taliban. That they should put down arms and work for the good of Pakistan! What does this message import, if anything, at all? I mean is he that naive to expect this silly message to be taken seriously? The scenario presumed being - "Taliban announce a complete cessation of hostilities with Pakistan, and from now onwards work for the good of Pakistan" (what that mysterious good is anyone's guess)
I am convinced of the fact that present leaders are mentally impaired and in their warped understanding of facts and situations have made the people of this country even less discerning than ever before. This kind of 'news' makes the headlines of our reputable news daily, and is read with earnestness! the same is splashed on myriads of TV channels and people listen to it as the sound of true gospel. Do we actually think the Taliban would heed this message? Of course not. So then why?
Why in the international arena do we make a monkey of ourselves by saying inane things, that have no meaning. Can't the Interior Minister, stay quite on this Eid? or is there this dire and desperate urge to be on the news at all times?
The Prime Minister and the President have also sent out Eid messages to the public all eulogizing the spirit of sacrifice and how we must put the needs of our fellow men over and above our own. Great speech, but amounts to nothing, they are all empty words, spoken without any thought probably written by some joint secretary in the information cell and said out like a parrot.
I want to know this - does Mr.President and the respected Prime Minister, of this very poor country even know the dictionary meaning of sacrifice? If they do then why don't they start 'sacrificing' their billions and spend those in the rehabilitation of the flood victims? after all it all our money that they have in their bank accounts illegally.
How can they both have the cheek to ask poor of the country to come forward and give what they don't have, while they usurp millions of the country's money?
We are living with the burden of such useless leaders, and since sending messages is the norm this Eid I have one as well for the grandees of this hapless nation:
Stop rubbing salts on our wounds!
