The harbingers of 'democracy' in Pakistan, the two all time leaders wielding immense street power - Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Nawaz sharif - are products of an army dictatorial rule. Zulfiqar Bhutto was a minister in the General Ayub Khan government formed after the coup of 1958, and Nawaz Sharif is the protege of none other than the hated General Zia-ul-Haq. So, how is it that they after coming into their own under the shadows of tyrants took up the mantle of democracy in this much abused country. Is it a coincidence that we saw later in Bhutto tyrannical leader who remained unwilling to accept the election results of 1970, and brought the country to total destruction and dissolution because he would not, never, relent power to Mujib-ur-Rehman, the clear winner of the said polls. Nawaz, after being the 'blue-eyed' boy of Zia, started to have democratic illusions for this country, but couldn't completely forget the lessons taught by the tyrant, and tried to use the same high-handed means against his army chief in 1999. If, we still believe, that the two parties, with such a past against everything democratic, can give us a government of the people, and by the people of course for the people, then we are seriously in the wrong, and are only groping in the dark for another hellish disaster!
The armed forces, to which we owe allegiance, and to whom we sing laudatory songs, are weak, corrupt, self-satisfied, indisciplined and totally incompetent, not worth a single penny spent on them for the past 63 years. They have fought four wars with India and miraculously lost each one of them, 1971, being the most visible of all, as it made us lose half a country. The rag-tag army went and did what is 'Treason' for the common man to even think and discuss out-loud! People of this country! please for once sit up and think for yourself (keeping your bloody mouths shut meanwhile.) If I on his forum talk of dividing Pakistan on say ethnic or provincial lines the sleuths of numerous 'intelligence' agencies will be after my life and will have no compunction in labeling me as a threat to the sovereignty of the state. But, our army went ahead, and laid arms in surrender to the Sikh general of the Indian army in 1971, (you-tube the pics) and they went scot free! and on top of it they have had the audacity of brain-washing the dumb public (us) that they by losing half the country actually won the war!!!
The history textbooks taught in the country lie blatantly and consistently about the true characters of the leaders of the nation, the events that led to the partition, the role of Nehru and Ghandhi and subsequent relationship with India. They are propaganda to raise a generation which is India-centric. If we study the history books written by English authors and even Indian scholars we get a very different picture of what actually happened and why? But then the minuscule educated class wouldn't want to waste time doing that would it? We like to take in whatever we are told as long as it is backed by a semblance of authority, for we still have some slavish genes in our DNA post colonialism that affected our forbears for over 200 years.
That our national character is "dishonorable' in local lingo, we are all simply 'beghairat.' And, in a shoddy attempt to save our faces (knowing deep down that we in actuality are exposed) we attach our so-called missing honor to material things we own and our women, who are unfortunately related to us, thus our possessions. We indulge in "karo Kari' in 'Vani' in 'Watta Satta', we try an feel big by making women a means to settle age old family feuds (thinking to our selves like Kings of the past, while we are really the animals of today.) In urban areas many a fights take place in ooh la la parties of the fashionables over women.
more ugly truths coming in.............
