After hours of musing and several days of thinking and of course endless blogs deriding this pure land and its pure people I have come to this conclusion, and please be assured there isn't a hint of irony or sarcasm in what I'm about to say, Asif Zardari is a laudable person. On him must be bestowed our accolades for being a sharp and a smooth operator, a line of action most Pakistanis want to take but fail on account of paucity of talent.
We must make him our national hero, yes, the more I think about it the more I'm convinced that he is 'the' hero that I, nay, we all were searching for in the past so many years. A national icon, a paragon of all what is good and commendable in a Pakistani!. He truly emulates what every Pakistani child, be a boy or a girl, must aspire to become. He defines our national traits, he embodies what it means to be a citizen of this country in its purest of form.
A man of humble origin, as most Pakistanis can count them selves to be. A man of meagre means with a non-aristocratic background, but who claims pedigree as long as the earth and heaven itself errrr like most of us. A man with a questionable adolensecne and early adulthood but the same duly transformed into great beginnings and lovely endings. A man without a college education and certainly sans-college attendance but sporting a college degree :)! and not only a just a degree but a degree of a foreign institution! well, the point being when one must lie and boast then do it with panache and complete abandon so it becomes doubly hard not to not believe!!!!! A man with hundreds of cronies and hanger ons, and wait, all of these hundreds have been his class fellow at one point in time or another so if one goes by their sheer number, Mr.AZ must be an holder of not one degree rather multiple degrees. A man who, being a non-entity himself made a successful match in marriage much above his status in society and by doing so took an elevator straight to the creme de la creme of this sordid society (excellent move if you ask me.) A man who had an educated and well placed wife who could raise excellent children minus any concrete support from him, a man who made huge profits cashing in on the wife's position and did not stop there, he went on to make a career for himself out of the marriage and then mastered it. A man who blatantly cheated on his wife, abused her publicly and sailed through it like every other Pakistani male - with aplomb! And, a man whose dream actually came true when his wife died rather was murdered ( some say with his approval and alas which man would not give such an approval?) And finally, a man who against all odds has become the most important man in this country, its constitutional head with the authority to bestow life to condemned! Such a man needs our applause and acclaim! he has gone and done exactly what most of us merely dream about and have not the strength of character or the loving help of fate to get.
From now on I will not lament the dearth of heroes in my country, we have own desi brand of superman, our robin hood, our Barack Obama all rolled into one in our most esteemed and beloved President. Mr.AZ also enjoys the unique distinction of being recognized as 'insane' by a Swiss court of law! he has proven once again to us poor inhabitants of this land that nothing can stand in our way, not even insanity if you do the right thing the wrong way, a shortcut to wealth and power is the way to go, doing wrong but doing it with confidence and a cheeky smile will make success not only probable but possible.
Asif Zardari with his complete set of 32 teeth all flashing brilliant in his la Joker smile, his maneuverings, his sheer openness in doing all the wrong things and doing it as if they were the things to do is my all time hero. He is what we all want to be that is why we have put him on a pinnacle. We all admire the man for his sly ways and his street smart cunningness. I want to be like Mr. Zardari, don't we all? stashing millions away, enjoying the presidency, the pomp the prestige, becoming history and all by being BAD!
