Not treading on heresy I hope! In this land of intolerance, I am scared to open my mouth and certainly my heart...but the more things change the more they stay the same and some incorrigibles like moi will never learn. so here I go again....
Australopithecus, the ape man species that walked the earth precisely eastern Africa what is now Tanzania, some 3.5 million years ago is now believed to be the precursor of the modern homo-sapiens, in lay terms you and me. Yes, to some it may still feel like a slap on the face, a hard cold one, that we were once apes and monkeys ( and who am I to disagree that most of us are still the same?) I just want to find out or rather mull on this conundrum, if we are from this genus, then where is the place of Adam, I call him Adam One, inspired by Margaret Atwood's splendid book 'The year of the Flood'. If we are descendants of this bipedal guerilla, then where was Adam in all this? Or is this ill fated Australopithecus (for he disappeared from the face of this earth some 2 million years ago) the actual Adam and his progeny?
Before, you jump off the handle, and curse me black and blue, think about it.. could this new man the kicked out Adam from Eden ( debate being rife that Eden itself is/was a place on Earth Sri Lanka being the first and foremost claimant! There could be many scenarios of this:
-Perhaps, Adam was a true man of the homo sapiens kind, but after being chucked out of heaven for wanting to know a little too much he was made into a chimp in a kind of reversed punishment, in a grand analogy of our primal and animal nature god actually made him closer to an animal again?
-Or maybe, Adam was an Australopithec, a half chimp/half man not quite up the evolution ladder (my vote certainly goes to this hypothesis) and that is why he fell for Eve's designs (ya ya) and got a swift kick up his behind.
-Perchance, this chimp/man genus is still alive and not extinct in every living man? The facial and body hair on men? their animalistic approach to life and opposite members of the sex?
Whatever the truth, one thing is quite clear, this Australopithecus is so not extinct he is all alive and kicking in this most tolerant of countries!
