Of Possibilities and Impossiblities........

I want to live in a world where huge events occur on a regular basis. Imagine living in a 'biblical world' where every time God got angry at his people he would wreak havoc on them to punish the and (hopefully) put them on the right path. Ravaging floods and deluges, gargantuan arks and life altering occurrences on a regular basis! And then, living for hundreds of years! Noah in the Bible is 700 years of age! can you beat that? Abraham in his quite bid to sacrifice his only son because his GOD had asked him to. The trek of three days to the Mount and the sheer stress of keeping the purpose of the journey secret is impossible to perceive in today's world of face book and twitter.

News has lost its significance because in an effort to keep up the 24 hour on the hour stream of news going continuously every little inconsequential thing is considered as NEWS, worthy of being shared and announced. And we somehow in comparison to the people inhabiting the past seem small and puny, our world and our concerns mundane and petty to the hilt. All is known, all is predictable, all is not surprising. the spontaneity, the element of surprise has somehow gone from life of today. From the weather to the to astronomical events of the next hundred years can be googled, there is no NEWS only analysis of what has happened and is happening - a kind of regurgitating the events again and again. We have no great figures on the global stage, no great discoveries taking place, no history in the making kind of world shattering events being unfolded in front of our eyes. All is faded, happened somewhere earlier, isn't going to have much impact kind of things that surround us, and no matter how hard we try to make our existence grand and significant, we come out looking unimportant. We lack the larger-than-life presence of heroes like Alexander, Augustus, our wars and conflicts are irrelevant and lack the magnanimity of great deeds and accomplishments, we are now governed not by 'whats right' but 'what sells' every act of ours is a materialistic one.

I want to witness earth shattering scenes, the stuff of fiction and high drama! the melodrama of the parting of the Red sea, the Exodus, the search for water by frantic Hajra, the stoning by the ababeels and so on! I want to be part of events that change life and character, that bring about revolutions in thinking and living, scenes of valor and courage are my yearning. I want to be in presence of personalities who have brought great changes in this world; What would it be to be in presence of people like Jesus or say Cleopatra, or see the Queen of Sheba? I want to live in the times of the construction of the Pyramids or the Tower of Babel, or the Taj Mahal, or The Hanging Gardens. I want magnanimity in front of my eyes which are dry and wanting to see grandeur, our lives are parched of bigger and massive happenings, we are all vermin, low lives witnessing nothing but dirt and dust!
