what do we talk about in PAKISTAN?

Have you ever wondered what all we converse about in this beautiful country? what are the topics that occupy us, what does that reflect about who are are as people, and where we might be heading, if anywhere at all ( totally debatable!)

Our conversations, by which I mean the talk of the .1% people of Pakistan who have had the privilege of an education veers around few and limited topics. The one thing that mostly seeks our attention and our mouths, is the ever-going tirades of the politicians of this country, the mongerings of the civil bureaucracy, the hidden agendas of the judiciary and the armed forces. We are so politicized in our talks and yet so not bothered about whats happening in the country. We are all drawing-room doers! we yell and scream and holler and discuss to death what all the country has to suffer at the hands of these ruffians but bring one such loser politician who is an MNA or an MPA amongst the company and they will all wag their tails and look with absolute submission and awe! such is our resolve! so why do we become such courageous Generals in the crusade against all ills sitting comfortably in an air-conditioned room drinking imported vodka!

The plethora of sub-standard TV channels on air have further increased our awareness about the world and the current issues (read 'made us stupid') now everyone is an expert on every single thing under the sun, and its a pain to bear these people who get their information or disinformation from TV and then propound it as the gospel! Spare us!!

Besides, bitching about the politicians, the next best thing we love to do is bash Pakistan. It goes something like this, "the people are so corrupt! uff, they have no road sense, they are so rude" and "the halath" (SITUATION) of the country and what its coming to.

Then comes the gossip session, we love to talk bad about others, love to hate them and diss them in all possible ways. Their lives become our lives, we are very nosy people as a nation, love to pry and know what others are up to (provincialism at its height) we may think we are urbanities, but in reality we are villagers with an interest in the petty and murky details of other people's lives.

After this there is a protestation of how every little thing costs big bucks! the tears and crying over the inflation, and where its all leading us to. Again no concrete discussion is made, it is merely bullshitting!

Last but not the least, the show-my stuff-and-my-uber rich-lifestyle session. UFFF! this comes down basically to "My shirt is too sexy.." and my shoes are Gucci, and my bag is Prada and my lipstick is YSL.......

Boredom galore is IT!!! (to be in solitude and away from this rubbish is nirvana)
