What the hell is wrong with this country? We had a cabinet of 60 plus ministers which was one of the largest in the world. It is made to resign, in the name of an austerity drive, and then what? in what is being termed as the 'first phase' 22 ministers are already appointed and have taken oath administered by non other than the President himself. Most of the same parliamentarians are holding the newly assigned portfolios. So it is merely a shuffle, and the same number or close to it will make up the entire cabinet. So why this futile exercise? Isn't this a sheer waste of time and energy! Does not the executive have anything better to do? while these shenanigans go on who, I'd like to ask, is running the affairs of the country, the simple day to day matters???? who is attending to them???? Is it the civil service? can they run on autopilot and if so then what is the need for these ministers and political leaders?
Why? I want to ask can we not 'walk' like an Egyptian? Seriously? what is wrong with us? we know how corrupt our leaders are, the newspapers read like TV guide synopsis on the latest soap operas, the president, with due respect is a certified lunatic, and a suspected murderer, the women in the parliament are either wanna-be fashioniastas or loud mouthed amazons that haven't a clue about the real women of Pakistan. Designer glasses, uber expensive bags, glittering solitaires and high end makeup isn't the need of the hour! It is an ability to connect to the masses, to understand their rhythm, to make themselves relevant to the nation they are supposedly representing.
And, this is not all! what is this I'm hearing about prosecutors refusing to represent Salman Taseer in the court of law. Oh, so not bringing a felon, a murderer who has taken a life in cold blood, to justice because he says he did so to protect Islam. I have two questions to him and the nitwits who hail him as a hero, 1) who had asked him to be the keeper of Islam? and where in the life of the Prophet do we find examples of this kind of Islam. The Prophet was an exemplary man, he forgave every one even the jahils who stoned him, cursed him, threw garbage on him , and then later on the meccans who fought bitter wars against him. So where does this fundo get the idea that killing a person would make Islam safer?? hello!! Islam has been around for 1400 yrs and if we read history of religions from an islamic perspective, then from the time of Adam. And we really believe that this man who is full of hatred and who doesn't aspire to the main tenets of our religion can be its safe guard! And next 2) In cases where the defendant cannot afford a lawyer the state assigns one for him, on the basis of the first principle of equal opportunity before the law. If serial killers can be defended, if child molesters can be spoken for then what was the crime of Taseer? that he called for justice?
And finally, coming to Mr.Davis of Lahore fame. What is going on? At times he is a contractual employee of the US consulate and has a visa but no diplomatic passport, then at times he has the diplomatic passport!, he doesn't have diplomatic immunity or wait, he might have it? He was in a stolen car, shooting from inside like a true pro Ala 007 style, or was he just a nervous foreigner fearing for his life. Bloody hell! enough days have passed, why can't we ever get a simple answer ever to any question in this country!!!! why does everything, every issue, lead astray from the main issue to endless non issues and then die a certain death! Umpteen experts have spoken on TV on Mr.Davis, he is also said to be in possession of videos of taliban trainings and waziristan area??
