trivial pursuit

Remember the hackneyed phrase of yesteryers 'general knowledge'. it meant knowing things that u really dont need to know unless ur playing trivial pursuit and to the best of my knowledge (yes that dicey thing) no one played the game atleast in the land of the pure and impure.

why as kids were we told that 'dehko us ki general knowledge kitni aachi hai' and that it was goal worth aspiring to and pursuing if we were to matter in life at all. People were looked up to and admired on knowing things that you were really fine not knowing and we all felt blessed in the penumbra of such wise souls if they happen to drop their tit bits of knowledge (read old inforamtion) for us to lap up and enrich our little minds.

whats happened to it?? i mean to this wisest of all disciplines? why dont we cherish it any longer? i think its got to do a lot with the advancement of technology, with computers andthe net providing you upto date information on everything under the sun and above and beyond it why bother knowing anything general. If we can access information at our will why should bwe load our memories with data that may not be used at all times and may not be ever used unless you happen to sound like a nerd.

See thats how our presrspectives have changed, what was looked upto esay 20 years back is an unwanted or rather irritating attribute to have in this day and age. the well informed man of the bygone days, often reffeerd to as world wise and well rounded and other accolades starting with well has noe become, well, rather tiresome and boring to have around and listen to.

we dont need anyone to tell us anything we can google it for ourselves when we want it
