NOTHING SPEAKS MORE OF A PUBLIC ADMISSION OF GUILT THAN A BATTERY OF ARMED GUARDS HOVERING AROUND A PERSON
I cry for you my country because those who can do something for you are too busy hiding away behind armed thugs (guards) from the very people who they can lead to glory. Revolution a'la Egypt style in Pakistan is as unlikely a phenomena as the Sun burning away in the next 24 hours. We are too busy 'protecting' ourselves from the contamination of the 'lower' classes, you see, the people who do not have palatial houses in the bigger and posher localities of this country, the multitude who ride the buses and do not have the luxury of being driven in imported bloated SUV's that manoeuvre the broken roads here, the many uneducated people who are only concerned with the daily earnings so they can keep up against the spiral of inflationary prices.
How can a country prosper? how can we all gather together to stand against the ruthless leaders that we have, when we'd be too proud and too scared and too snooty to stand next to a common man on the street for days on to protest! We the 'chosen' who just sit and ponder on the hapless conditions around us and are then too hung up on living the life that we have, to go out and understand and empathize with the actual people and their reality.
And, to think that Sir Imran Khan is going to get us out of this mire and muddle that we have bogged down into is the joke of the 21st century. For first, a country is not run on pity as other philanthropic projects (with all due respect to his wonderful work there) and again a country is hardly a game of cricket where one can play at being a hero. No, absolutely not, at the first instance people following Sir Khan are from his own social strata, the ones who take vacations every year abroad because 'hai allah its too hot or the kids must have a trip or to do they yearly shopping from Oxford street!' Khan's glasses give him away? Is he from us, the 'us' being the poor people? who don't have generators, and servants and armed guards and cars? and certainly no money for uber expensive designer glasses! If you have all the luxuries of life in a country where per capita income is way less than 50 dollars, then, for you life is good and living cheap!
So the men and women of the elite and the cream of this country (of course, thick and rich) are too busy looking down on the masses. They are the servants and laborers who they lord over and sometimes help, come down to their level to display great acts of charity, like the English DC of the Raj. Who will lead this country? when the educated are literate but not learned, when they lack the perceptions and the insight to understand whats ailing our country ( hardly the 'rowdies' from low income areas.)
My dear fellow citizens, of the higher, aristocratic ( doubtful), so called- educated, rich and moneyed, English speaking class, please stop spending so much on gym and exclusive club memberships and on charity ball tables (uff) and give up the belief that you are somehow better than us urdu speaking, flat and shanty town dwellers, who battle the power cuts without recourse to a generator or even a UPS, please stop acting so high and mighty - for soon, the tides will change and the 'have-nots' will march upon those who 'have' and demand and an equitable share. So. its time to get off the high horse (literally for some) and face the world, the world that is Pakistan and if you are unable to do anything productive please for heavens sake don't talk in public of wanting protection from "rowdies' for soon there won't be an area that is safe for you!
but i think u dont know the feelings of disappearing from a friend ship relation all of a sudden without telling any thing. Ahmad Faraz
