Is there? to living, to this being, to the world as it is, to history and its machinations, to religions and its Gods, to universe, to stars and skies, and multiple moons, and nebulous nebulae. Why are we here? And is there a higher purpose? This question has haunted men for over centuries, different people have defined it variously. Religion defines purpose of life as a means of living out God's will, as a test. Philosophers define it as a quest for good, living a moral life, and finally the existentialists pronounce that there isn't a design or any other purpose, we are accidents or rather culmination of 'natural-selection' and once we die we cease to be.
Most of the time when we look for purpose, we find it after this life, beyond it, not within it. Isn't that completely weird and whimsical. we have to live through this entire life in the hope of finding the reason of it all at the end when we are no longer who we are? This is downright dishonest and fraudulent. And what if the Absurdists are right after all and there is nothing on the other side, suppose we die and then never wake up, what then?
Or is it that we must buy into the self-help dictates and find our own goal, end, reason to ourselves. Isn't that a hard task, its actually a huge undertaking, an attempt to explain yourself, give arguments as to why you are, who you are, and why does that mean something? how many of us would fail thus, how many of us can actually fight and win their own pleas for being here. Do we have a valid reason and an authentic purpose that justifies our being alive? can we as humans, as ourselves convince and prove that our being is essential and important for this or that reason?
I have only one, and that too lies not in my being but in another. I live and exist to be a mother and that is all, maybe I was born for this very purpose and if I can accomplish that I've done good for myself and the life that has been given to me. I lived for this long to be a nurturing force to another human being, my past,my present and my future then becomes relevant.
And what then becomes the purpose of other people who have no children? does that mean they have no right to live? of course not, there has to be some other defined reason. What of wars and separate countries, of art and literature, of hatred and passionate love, of births and killings.....
What is your purpose?
